Book Review: Where God Finds You

Where God Finds You: 40 Devotions Bringing Bible Characters to Life. Anita Higman. 2012. Standard Publishing. 240 pages.

I enjoyed reading Anita Higman's new devotional, Where God Finds You. Each devotional entry begins with a fictional sketch inspired by a character from the Bible. These entries are told in the first person; the entries are creative and dramatic. Usually occurring just minutes or hours away from a miracle, revelation, or realization. Most capture  or try to capture a person's wonder of God. But the entries are not solely fictional. Each entry also includes the passage of Scripture the story is drawn from, personal reflection from Anita Higman, and reflective questions. Not every devotional includes questions for the readers after every entry, but, I think it works. I think they can help the reader make a deeper connection with the text (the Bible) and its author. Perhaps realizing that these men and women did in fact exist, and these were ordinary men and women whom God used to reveal His glory.

For those that do read biblical fiction, this one will prove interesting I believe. It will also be good for those that do enjoy devotional reading.
